Zlatomir Fung is quickly building an international reputation as one of the outstanding young string soloists of his generation

Today is American cellist VC Artist Zlatomir Fung’s 25th birthday!

A student of Richard Aaron and Timothy Eddy at The Juilliard School, Zlatomir is a former first prize winner at the Johansen, Stulberg, and Irving Klein International Music Competitions. He is also the youngest cellist ever to win First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019.

The winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2017, he was also awarded first prize at both the Schoenfeld and Enescu International Cello Competitions.

This 2023/24 season, Fung was Artist-in-Residence with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which included a tour to the UK.

Across North America and Asia, notable engagements include Fung's debut with the Cleveland Orchestra, appearances alongside the Baltimore and Shanghai Symphony Orchestras, and a tour to Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Recent noteworthy concerto performances include Fung's debuts with esteemed orchestras, the New York Philharmonic, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lille, and BBC Philharmonic, in addition to engagements with the Detroit, Seattle, Milwaukee, Utah, Rochester, and Kansas City Symphonies.

Fung is also dedicated towards contemporary repertoire, championing composers such as Unsuk Chin, Katherine Balch, and Anna Clyne.
