Italian conductor and composer Claudio Scimone has died - aged 83

Italian conductor and composer Claudio Scimone has died - aged 83.

A student of Dmitri Mitropoulos and Franco Ferrara, Maestro Scimone was the founder of the I Solisti Veneti Chamber Orchestra, in Italy.

He will be remember for his revival of a number of important baroque and renaissance works - including his direction of the first modern production of Rossini’s Maometto Secondo.
