Soviet composer Dmitry Kabalevsky died on this day in 1987 - aged 82.

He is remembered for his contribution to developing young talent – having set up music programs in over 25 Soviet schools and having composed a number of important developmental works to help bridge the gap between children’s technical skills and adult aesthetics.
