Composer Hans Abrahamsen Awarded Prestigious €100,000 Danish Music Bursary
Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen has been announced as the recipient of the prestigious 2019 Léonie Sonning Music Foundation Prize
65 year old Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen has today been announced as the recipient of the prestigious 2019 Léonie Sonning Music Foundation Prize.
Regarded as Denmark’s highest classical music honour, the bursary is awarded annually to an internationally recognised composer, instrumentalist, conductor or singer.
A student of Per Norgard, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen and Gyorgy Ligeti, Mr Abrahamsen will receive EUR 100,000 (US $125,000), a concert with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra - and a number of engagements dedicated in his honour.
Previous recipients include: Igor Stravinsky (1959), Leonard Bernstein (1965), Benjamin Britten (1968), Sergiu Celibidache (1970), Yehudi Menuhin (1972), Dimtri Shostakovich (1973), Mstislav Rostropovich (1981), Isaac Stern (1982), Gidon Kremer (1989) and Anne-Sophie Mutter (2001), Yo Yo Ma (2006), Leonidas Kavakos (2017) and Mariss Jansons (2018).
