Dallas Symphony Orchestra to Host Women in Classical Music Symposium

Hosted from November 6-9, 2022, the symposium will feature talks, panel discussions, performances, and networking events based on topics unique to women in the classical music industry

The fourth year of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Women in Classical Music Symposium will take place on November 6-9, 2022, at The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, in Dallas, Texas.

Focused on inspiring women in the field of classical music, the symposium strives to help women reach their full professional potential, while also incentivizing broad-scale change in the industry.

"Despite the fact that women outpace their male counterparts in graduation from prominent conservatories and schools of music, they are severely underrepresented in titled conducting positions, in programming by major orchestras, on stage as soloists and in management leadership positions," their website reads.

Individual Registration is $150, while student registration is $50 — scholarships are available. To register, please contact [email protected].

To lead into the symposium, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform on and at Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Fabio Luisi conducts a program of Julia Perry's Study for Orchestra, Clara Schumann's Piano Concerto with pianist Lise de la Salle, and Louise Farrenc's Symphony No. 3.

Talks and workshops feature topics including, but not limited to:

-The State of the Industry

-History and Leadership of Black Women in U.S. Orchestras

-Workshop: Performance Psychology: Tips to Understand and Optimize Your Approach to Performing, Public Speaking, and Hard Conversations

-Putting it all Together: Work-Life Integration

-Breaking Through: Gender Identity, Stereotypes and Biases

Additional concerts include a chamber concert with Angela Fuller Heyde and Emily Levin dedicated to Jorja Fleezani and a recital featuring Julia Bullock and Katherine Goforth.
