Bohemian cellist and composer David Popper was died on this day in 1913 – aged 70.
A student of Julius Goltermann, his signature works include 4 Cello Concertos, a 'Requiem' for 3 Cellos and Orchestra and a number of popular bravura show works – including 'Tarantella', 'Spinning Song', 'Ungarische Rhapsodie' and ‘Elfentanz'.
