Prizes Awarded at Hungary’s Popper International Cello Competition
Rachel Siu from Australia and Hayoung Lee from South Korea have been awarded joint 1st prize at the 2019 David Popper International Cello Competition
Rachel Siu from Australia and Hayoung Lee from South Korea have this week been awarded joint 1st prize in the 21-to-23-Year-Old Senior Age Category at the 2019 David Popper International Cello Competition – in Várpalota, Hungary.
A post-graduate student of Joel Krosnick at The Juilliard School, Rachel is a former 1st prize winner at the "Getting to Carnegie" Competition.
A current under graduate student at the Korean National University of the Arts, Hayoung is a former 1st prize winner at the Ewha & Kyunghyang Competition - and the Shinhan Music Awards.
2nd prize was awarded to Alexandra Kahrer from Austria in the 21-to-23-Year-Old Senior Category.
Joint-3rd prize was awarded to Riku Hagiwara from Japan, Jaewoo Jeong from South Korea and Lena Marie Schulz from Germany.
Seungyeon Baik from South Korea and Stefano Bruno from Italy were awarded joint 1st prize in the 18-to-20-Year-Old Age Category.
Danbin Lee from South Korea and Nella Balog from Hungary were awarded joint 1st prize in the 15-to-17-Year-Old Age Category.
Danah Han from South Korea and Ling Yang from China were awarded joint 1st prize in the 12-to-14-Year-Old Age Category.
Jeri Lee from South Korea, Nicholas Wong from the United States and Austin Kwan Shek Lam from Hong Kong were awarded joint 1st prize in the 10-to-11-Year-Old Junior Age Category.
The 2019 jury comprised: Csaba Onczay (President), Györgyi Horváth, Zdzislaw Lapinsky, Kangho Lee, Tamás Mérei, Susan Moses and Matias de Oliviera Pinto.
