Austrian-born double bass virtuoso and pedagogue Franz Simandl was born on this day in 1840.

Professor Simandl served a long term teaching position on faculty at the Vienna Conservatory - and his series of books, including the ‘New Methods for the Double Bass’ and his ‘30 Etudes’, still today serve as a cornerstone of modern double bass technique building.
