Double Bassist David Neubert has Died, Aged 69
The American bassist spent more than three decades playing in the Austin Symphony and teaching at UT-Austin
The American double bassist David Neubert, who played a significant role at the International Society of Bassists (ISB) has passed away at the age of 69.
Born in 1954, Neubert studied at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Texas at Austin. He was Principal Bass of the Springfield Symphony and the Wichita Symphony, and also held teaching roles at the University of Massachusetts and Wichita State University.
Neubert spent the bulk of his career at UT-Austin, where he served as Professor of Double Bass between 1982 and 2011. During these decades he also offered laudable service as the Principal Bass of the Austin Symphony, Ballet, and Opera Orchestra.
Upon his retirement from his professorial role, Neubert spent a further four years serving as the department's Director of Instructional Technology.
Neubert also played a key role in the development of the International Society of Bassists and hosted its conventions at UT-Austin and at Interlochen in 1986 and 1993 respectively.
