89-Year-Old Conductor Bernard Haitink To Take Well-Earned Sabatical

89-year-old Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink will take a complete sabbatical from all conducting during the 2019-2020 season

It has been announced this week that 89-year-old Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink will take a complete sabbatical from all conducting duties during the 2019-2020 season.

Maestro Haitink, who will turn 90 this March, suffered a heavy fall on stage at the Concertgebouw Concert Hall, in Amsterdam, in June of last year - following a performance of Mahler's 9th Symphony.

It is Maestro's intension to fulfill all concert commitments until the beginning of this summer, his management Askonas Holt has indicated, and he is expected to return to his schedule with renewed vigor during the summer of 2020.
