European Broadcasting Union & Vienna Phil Renew Five-Year Deal
The two organizations' broadcasting agreement will now extend to 2027
The five-year broadcast agreement will give public-service TV channels access to several concerts per year, including the Vienna Philharmonic’s annual New Year’s concert — a tradition that stretches back to the start of World War II and garners millions of viewers each year. In 2021, the concert garnered 22 million views across EBU members’ nearly 2000 public-service channels in 56 countries.
The partnership also includes the broadcast rights to an annual Summer Night Concert and a Special Concert which will take place on September 18 at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, with Christian Thielemann conducting music by Anton Bruckner.
“The EBU is delighted to be able to continue this partnership with one of the world’s greatest cultural institutions, securing public-service broadcasters’ role as the best platforms for arts and culture,” EBU Media Director Jean Philip De Tender said.
