Elbphilharmonie Names Nahre Sol as Creator-in-Residence
The pianist, composer, and YouTube creator will spend several months in Hamburg creating video content about the Elbphilharmonie's work
The Korean-American pianist, composer, and YouTube creator Nahre Sol has recently been named as the 2023/24 Creator-in-Residence at Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie.
Sol will be the first person to take up the newly created role, and will work with the Elbphilharmonie to create and share content across its digital channels — thus sharing its work with a larger audience. She will spend several months in Hamburg, during which time she will attend concerts in the Elbphilharmonie as well as speaking with artists and staff.
A graduate of The Juilliard School and The Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), Nahre Sol has performed at venues such as The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. As a composer, her works have received premieres in New York City, Buenos Aires, Paris, Hamburg, and Toronto.
She makes YouTube videos on a broad variety of topics, including improvisation, the avant-garde, traditional Western forms and harmony, jazz, and minimalism — and presently has 615,000 subscribers.
"We are delighted to have Nahre Sol on board for the coming season," said Christoph Lieben-Seutter, the General and Artistic Director at the Elbphilharmonie. "She will make a valuable contribution towards getting new people interested in our programs."
"Things never stay the same in the Elbphilharmonie – exciting stories happen here every day. Nahre Sol will tell these stories in her unique way. With imaginative and intelligent content, she reaches thousands of young, curious music lovers every day."
"I’m so happy to be involved in this innovative collaboration," Sol said. "The Elbphilharmonie is an incredibly inspiring concert hall and we have the shared goal of making music accessible for as many people as possible."
"If you’re open-minded when it comes to music and want to experience all kinds of genres – from traditional western art music to jazz, electro and pop – then you’ve come to the right place. Being the Creator in Residence over the coming season is going to be a very special journey."
