Watch the then 20-year-old violinist perform at the 1966 Tchaikovsky Competition

Named in honor of the famous violinist, the 2021 Viktor Tretyakov Competition started this week and will run from September 21 to 30 — streamed LIVE on The Violin Channel.

Held every two years, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Krasnoyarsk region, the competition is held for violinists between ages 16 to 32, competing for the $20,000 USD Grand Prize.
