Today is German-American violinist David Garrett's 36th birthday.

A protege of Ida Haendel and Itzhak Perlman, David at the age of 13 became the youngest artist in history to be awarded an exclusive contract with the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft.

While studying at the Juilliard School, he supplemented his income working as a fashion model.
