Gothenburg Symphony Appoint New 30 Year Old Chief Conductor
The Gothenburg Symphony has announced the appointment of Finnish conductor, Santtu-Matias Rouvali as their new Chief Conductor
The Gothenburg Symphony has today announced the appointment of 30 year old Finnish conductor, Santtu-Matias Rouvali as their new Chief Conductor - as of the commencement of the 2017/18 season.
'He has clearly shown that he represents something fresh and unique as a conductor … we are confident that he will shape and develop the orchestra with his artistic brilliance and insight,’ Orchestra Artistic Director, Sten Cranner has said.
'I have enjoyed some fantastic concerts with the orchestra and look forward to making music with these wonderful musicians again this autumn,” Rouvali has said.
He currently serves as Artistic Director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Copenhagen Philharmonic.
Previous Gotheburg Symphony Chief Conductors, include Neeme Jarvi, Mario Vanzago, Gustavo Dudamel and Kent Nagano.
