Hong Kong Rail to Review Cello Case Luggage Restriction

Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway has announced they are set to review their commuter luggage policy, following a highly publicised incident last week where a local cellist was threatened with HK$2000 fine for carry his instrument on the city's light rail.

As reported on The Violin Channel, the 4th year Hong Kong Baptist University student was cautioned by a senior transport officer, as the cello case slightly exceeded the carrier's luggage size restrictions - and was issued with an official warning that a further violation would result in a HK$2000 (US $258) fine.

‘The present rule on the size of objects which can be carried into the MTR was established taking into account the reasonable needs of passengers .... in response to views expressed by members of the community, the corporation will conduct a review on the current restriction,’ the MTR have said in a statement.
