A graduate of the Budapest Royal Academy where she studied with Imre Waldbauer, Ms Harvas is best known for her 1961 pedagogical book A New Approach on the Causes and Cures of Physical Injuries in Violin and Viola Playing - which addressed string playing ergonomics, natural positioning, the release of tension, injury prevention and the prevention of anxiety and stage fright during performance.

She was a former recipient of the American String Teachers Association's Isaac Stern International Award - and in 2013 was presented a Lifelong Achievement Award by the European Teachers’ Association.

Our condolences are with Ms Harvas' family, friends, colleagues and students.
