IMG Artists Welcomes Umberto Clerici for General Management
The conductor will be represented by Global Artist Management Consultant Nicholas Mathias and Senior Vice President Derek Chandruang
Umberto Clerici enjoyed a career as a cello soloist and orchestral musician before transitioning to conducting. He is currently the Chief Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Umberto’s recent conducting engagements include conducting Elgar’s Cello Concerto with Steven Isserlis for the Volksoper Vienna, and debuts with Orchestra del Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Orchestra Regionale Toscana.
He also curated a three-week series with the Sydney Symphony and returned to the podiums of the Dunedin, Melbourne, and West Australian Symphony Orchestras.
Highlights in 2025 include conducting pianist Daniil Trifonov playing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3 with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and a return engagement to Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
"I am honoured to be joining IMG Artists’ high-calibre roster and, more particularly, to be represented by Derek Chandruang and Nicholas Mathias who bring a rare combination of artistic purpose, ambition and experience," Umberto said. "I am delighted to have found my artistic home so swiftly and look forward to this next chapter on the global stage. The future feels bright and full of music in this new year, and for many more to come."
As a cellist, Umberto was the Principal cello of the Teatro Regio di Torino and the Principal Cello of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from 2014 to 2021. He is one of only two Italians to have ever won a prize for cello in the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition.
