Tbilisi Opera and Orchestra Appoints New Music Director
In addition to the new position at Georgia's Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, Giacomo Sagripanti also serves as the Principal Guest Conductor at the Fondazione Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
After impressing audiences at his debut performances in the Festival della Valle d’Itria and at the Lübeck Theatre, Sagripanti soon received invitations to conduct at many of Europe's premier opera houses.
At the 2016 International Opera Awards, Sagripanti received the prize for Young Conductor of the Year, with his mentor Gianandrea Noseda being named Conductor of the Year.
Sagripanti was born in Abruzzo, in the south of Italy. Following initial studies in piano performance and composition, he went on to study conducting with Donato Renzetti, Bruno Bartoletti, Renato Palumbo, Gianandrea Noseda, and Colin Metters.
Alongside his new role in Tbilisi, Sagripanti has a number of upcoming performances including Don Pasquale, Werther, Tosca, La Fille du régiment, and Anna Bolena at the Vienna State Opera, Rigoletto in Paris, and Turandot at the Hamburg State Opera.
