Italy's Filippo Nicosia Chamber Music Award Announces Winners

The top prize of €4,000 went to Switzerland's Trio Sheliak

Trio Sheliak, a piano trio based in Switzerland, has been named the winner of the Filippo Nicosia Award for chamber music. They will receive a cash prize of €4,000, as well as two concerts offered by Gioventù Musicale d’Italia in 2023 and a Musical Portrait in Archi Magazine. The group comprises pianist Serjoe Costa, violin Emanuele Brilli, and cellist Matilde Michelozzi.

Best Italian Chamber Ensemble, with a prize of four concert appearances, went to Trio Chimera, while the UK's Trio Cygnus received the Recording Award, which will see them record an album with DaVinci Publishing in 2023.

Italy's Quartetto Erinni received the Thomastik-Infeld Award and will be given a string consultation session where they can find out which types of strings best suit their instruments. Italy's Trio Febo won the Ricordi Award and will receive €500 worth of scores.

In 2022, the awards also offered a fine viola by the Cremonese maker Giorgio Grisales to the best viola player. This prize was won by Jose M. Muriel, the violist of the Italian-Spanish Doré Quartet.

Finally, China's Mahjong Quartet was named the winner of the chamber music masterclass.

"We will have the fantastic opportunity to play in Barcelona at the Italian Institute of Culture, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) with Mr. Simone Gramaglia, and two more concerts for Gioventù Musicale d'Italia.
