John Williams Awarded Best Classical Artist at The Global Awards
In its fifth edition, The Global Awards brings together Global radio stations Capital, Heart, Smooth, Classic FM, Radio X, Capital XTRA, Capital Dance and Gold, and Global Player.
Those nominated for "Best Classical Artist" alongside John Williams were violinist Nicola Benedetti, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason and tenor Freddie De Tommaso.
In other non-classical categories, Ed Sheeran was awarded both "Best Male" and "Best British Artist" while Elton John won the award for "Mass Appeal."
"The Global Awards brings together all Global’s radio brands in celebration of the world’s most talented artists and broadcasters," commented Ashley Tabor-King OBE, Global’s Founder & Executive President.
A five-time Academy Award winner and recipient of 25 GRAMMY Awards, John Williams is a 2004 Kennedy Center Honoree and his 90th Birthday Celebration will be held in June 2022 at Washington, D.C’s Kennedy Center.
Although he has written some of the most recognizable film scores in history — including Star Wars, Jaws, Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and Harry Potter — Williams recently announced that he will be stepping away from film scoring.
This year, Williams will score what he expects to be his final two films: The Fabelmans, which is loosely based on Spielberg’s childhood, and the fifth installment in the Indiana Jones series.
