It has been announced today that Chinese pianist Lang Lang has withdrawn from his upcoming 2017-18 season-opening performance on September 14th with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, due to an arm injury – and will be replaced by superstar violinist Joshua Bell and VC Rising Star Yesong Sophie Lee.
The 13 year old virtuoso was awarded 1st prize in the 2016 Menuhin Competition Junior Division.

The program, which originally was to include Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Piano Concerto, will now feature the Grammy-award winning Joshua Bell performing Lalo’s ‘Symphonie Espagnole’ – plus the Bach Double Violin Concerto with the Seattle-based teen.
“While we will miss Lang Lang and wish him a speedy and complete recovery, we are excited to offer Richmond such a distinctive program with these two violin virtuosos,” Richmond Symphony Executive Director David J.L. Fisk has said.
