Julia Fischer Plays the Sibelius Violin Concerto
This live recording features the Frankfurt Radio Symphony and conductor Alain Altinoglu
The Frankfurt Radio Symphony has made a new live recording available, featuring violinist Julia Fischer's performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in September 2023. The French conductor Alain Altinoglu leads the orchestra on this occasion.
From the age of nine, Fischer studied the violin with Ana Chumachenco and later became her successor at the University of Munich. Fischer launched her solo career in 1995 when she won the International Yehudi Menuhin Competition.
She has appeared solo with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Orchestre National de France, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, and the Warsaw Philharmonic, among others.
Fischer is also a respected chamber musician, and in 2010 she founded the Julia Fischer Quartet alongside Alexander Sitkovetsky, Nils Mönkemeyer, and Benjamin Nyffenegger. She has a long-standing relationship with cellist Daniel Müller-Schott, and the pair have release multiple albums together.
"I played the Sibelius concerto for the first time with orchestra when I was fourteen, and actually almost all my important debuts have been with this piece," Fischer said in 2010.
"A very important role in this piece is actually that of the nature of Scandinavia," she added. "You can really somehow hear the wind in the piece, and the ice."
