Bulgarian-born Los Angeles-based violinist Katia Popov has passed away after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer - aged just 50

Bulgarian-born Los Angeles-based violinist Katia Popov has passed away after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer - aged just 50.

A graduate of the Bulgarian Conservatory of Music, Paris Conservatoire and the University of California, Katia served as a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Long Beach Symphony - and as Concertmaster of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

In addition she held a teaching position on faculty at the Cal State University of Long Beach Cole Conservatory - and throughout her career recorded more than 600 motion picture scores.

Our condolences are with Katia's family, friends, colleagues and students.
