Marie Jacquot Appointed Principal Conductor at the Royal Danish Theatre
The young French conductor has been engaged for an initial term of five seasons
The French conductor Marie Jacquot has been named as the new Principal Conductor at the Royal Danish Theatre and will serve in the role from 2024 to 2029. Jacquot has received critical acclaim for her Copenhagen performances of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, and Gounod's Faust.
During the 2024/25 season, Jacquot will lead Trojahn's Orest and the Puccini trilogy Il trittico, as well as conducting the orchestra in two symphonic concerts — including a program that features Noah Bendix-Balgley as the soloist in Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4.
Since the 2023/24 season, Marie Jacquot has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker, and she is Chief Conductor Designate of the WDR Sinfonieorchester — a role she will begin in full during the 2026/27 season.
She has recently appeared with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the Symphony Orchestras of Bavarian Radio Munich, WDR Cologne, HR Frankfurt, and mdr Leipzig — as well as the DSO Berlin, the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne.
"Marie Jacquot is one of the fastest rising stars in the European musical scene, and it is a fantastic testament to the quality of the Royal Danish Orchestra that she has chosen to dedicate herself as our principal conductor," said Kasper Holten, the Managing Director of the Royal Danish Theatre.
"She has already shown that she will be a tremendous enrichment for our audience, and I am very excited to collaborate with her as a director on her first opera production as our principal conductor: the Danish premiere of Manfred Trojahn's intense opera Orest."
"The Royal Danish Orchestra has the perfect balance of high musical and human skills," said Jacquot. "The orchestra's musicians are passionate, disciplined, and unafraid to innovate. It is a great joy and an immense honor for me to be able to work with this amazing orchestra."
"As principal conductor I am incredibly excited to work more closely with the musicians of The Royal Danish Orchestra and to support them in doing their best for the music, for the audience, and for Danish culture."
