Marin Alsop Announced as Guest Conductor for Prague Summer Nights 2025 Festival

Alsop will join the festival's 10th anniversary season in 2025 as a Distinguished Guest Conductor

The Prague Summer Nights: Young Artists Music Festival (PSN) offers aspiring opera and orchestra professionals the opportunity to work and perform in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, and one of the cultural hearts of Europe.

The festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary season in 2025 and will welcome Marin Alsop as a Distinguished Guest Conductor.

In the role, Alsop will lead Masterclasses in the PSN Apprentice Conducting Program, providing invaluable guidance and mentorship. In addition, Alsop will rehearse with the orchestra and conduct them in their performance of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," at the Burgher’s Hall in Plzeň.

The 2025 season will include three orchestral concerts, a chamber music concert, a Czech Opera scenes concert, a cabaret concert, and four Opera concerts in Vienna.

Alsop made history as the first woman to lead major orchestras in the U.S., South America, Austria, and Great Britain and currently serves as Chief Conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony, and Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony.

Having recently extended her contract as Chief Conductor of the Ravinia Festival, she is also the Music Director Laureate at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Conductor of Honour at the São Paulo Symphony.

Additionally, as the first Music Director of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival, Alsop recently launched a new academy for young conductors and continues to support emerging women conductors in the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship, which she founded in 2002.

Alsop is the only conductor to receive a MacArthur Genius Grant and has won awards from the World Economic Forum, Royal Philharmonic Society, Association of British Orchestras, and Harvard and Cambridge Universities. She has also been elected into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
