VERY SAD NEWS | Juilliard School’s Ear-Training Guru Mary Anthony Cox Has Died [RIP]

American pianist and aural ear-training educator Mary Anthony Cox has passed away

American pianist and aural ear-training educator Mary Anthony Cox has passed away.

A graduate of The Juilliard School, she served on the school’s ear training teaching faculty from 1964 until her retirement in 2013.

“She could be so intimidating … still after two weeks or so, I was her biggest fan and was inspired by the material - and her dedication to teaching it,” 2002 Juilliard School graduate Wayne Oquin has said.

"A methodical pedagogue ... a thoughtful performer, a terrifying authoritarian ... the best teacher I ever had ... and the only one who forced me to work on skills I attempted to avoid ..." Miss Cox's online ratemyprofessor.com profile reads.

She will be remembered for her ‘intimidating level of knowledge, warmth, passion and dedication,’ The New York Times has today said.

Our condolences are with Miss Cox's family, friends, colleagues and students.
