The University of Michigan School of Music has announced the appointment of American violinist and violist, Matt Albert as their new Department of Chamber Music first chair
The University of Michigan School of Music has today announced the appointment of American violinist and violist, Matt Albert as their new Department of Chamber Music first chair - effective from September this year.
Matt currently serves as Director of Chamber Music of SYZYGY at the Meadows School of Arts at the Southern Methodist University.
A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Northwestern University School of Music, he is a founding member of the contemporary music sextet Eighth Blackbird - for which he has received three Grammy awards.
"His incredible musicianship, breadth of accomplishment across multiple genres and proven track record as a pedagogue make him uniquely qualified to lead this new department ... I have no doubt he will develop it into an unrivaled incubator for the chamber arts, contributing significantly to the success of our students as well as the growth of the field,” School of Music Dean, Aaron Dworkin has said.
