Music@Menlo Appoints New Executive Director
John S. Robinson, who has previously been Executive Director of the Santa Barbara Symphony and San Francisco Classical Voice, will step into the role
Music@Menlo recently announced that John S. Robinson has been appointed as its new Executive Director. He replaces outgoing Executive Director Edward Sweeney, who has led Music@Menlo for the past eighteen years. During his tenure, Sweeney increased the organization's annual operating budget from $1.3 to $2.5 million, and grew its net assets from $300,000 to $6.5 million.
Robinson comes to Music@Menlo from a position as Director of Leadership Gifts at The Asia Foundation in San Francisco. He has also previously held roles at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and San Francisco’s Community Music Center.
In addition, Robinson has been Executive Director of the Santa Barbara Symphony and San Francisco Classical Voice.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Haverford College, a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory, and professional leadership certifications from Harvard's Kennedy School and Stanford University.
"Music@Menlo eagerly anticipates the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that John will bring to the organization and expresses deep gratitude to our outgoing Executive Director, Edward Sweeney," said David Finckel and Wu Han, artistic directors.
"We are confident that John will build upon the strong foundation laid by Edward, steering us towards even greater heights of artistic impact. With John's proven leadership skills and passion for classical music, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for Music@Menlo."
"I am thrilled to embark on this journey with Music@Menlo," Robinson said. "It will be an honor to collaborate with David Finckel and Wu Han, the extraordinary musicians of the festival and institute, the dedicated volunteers, and the talented Music@Menlo team. I can’t wait to get started."
