Polish-born American violinist Newton Mansfield has passed away - aged 88

Polish-born American violinist Newton Mansfield has passed away - aged 88.

A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory, he served positions in the Baltimore, Houston and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras - before joining the New York Philharmonic in 1961.

Mr Mansfield performed with the Philharmonic for 55 years - until his retirement in 2016.

Our condolences are with his family, friends, colleagues and students.
