Finnish Radio Symphony Appoint First Non-Finnish Chief Conductor

The Finnish Radio Symphony has announced the appointment of 36-year-old British conductor Nicholas Collon as its new Chief Conductor

The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, in Helsinki, Finland has this week announced the appointment of 36-year-old British conductor Nicholas Collon as its new Chief Conductor - effective from September 2021.

Nicholas, who currently serves as Principal Conductor of the Aurora Orchestra, will replace conductor Hannu Lintu in the role - and will become the first non-Finnish Chief Conductor in the orchestra's history.

"I look forward to sharing in the FRSO’s amazing musical culture, from the music of Sibelius and his modern Finnish counterparts, to the musicians’ astonishing professionalism, skill and thirst for experimentation when tackling all shapes and sizes of challenging repertoire ..." Nicholas has said.

"Together, I hope we can build on this enviable position, and continue to expand the orchestra’s horizons, lighting a beacon for what  a 21st century symphony orchestra can and should be," he has said.
