The Seoul Philharmonic, in South Korea, has today announced the appointment of Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä as its new Music Director – effective from January 2020.

In December of last year, Maestro Vänskä announced he will step down as Music Director of the Minnesota Orchestra in 2022 – after 19 years at the helm.

“Vanska’s relationship with the orchestra has produced some of the most electrifying concerts we’ve heard these last few years …” Seoul Philharmonic President Annette Kang has said.

“The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra has incredible artistic energy and creativity, and I have no doubt that Osmo is the ideal leader to continue that momentum and move us into the next era,” she has said.

“It is a great pleasure to partner with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in this new leadership role … I look forward to working with the musicians and orchestra administration to create interesting programmes and inspiring concerts for the enthusiastic audiences of Seoul,” the 66-year-old conductor has today said.
