North Shore Chamber Music Festival Announces 2024 Program

The three-day festival held from June 5–8, 2024, and will be streamed on The Violin Channel

The North Shore Chamber Music Festival (NSCMF) was founded in 2010 by violinist Vadim Gluzman and pianist Angela Yoffe. Its 2024 edition will be held in Northbrook, Illinois, from June 5–8.

Held in Chicago, NSCMF’s The Music Makers series offers three days of new classical and contemporary classical music experiences.

Led by Gluzman, who serves as NSCMF’s artistic director, and Yoffe, who is executive director, the festival will also feature clarinetist Ilya Shterenberg; pianist Alessio Bax; violinists VC Artist Paul Huang, Danbi Um, and Njioma Grevious; violists Natalie Loughran and Katie Liu; cellist Ani Aznavoorian; and double bassist Kurt Muroki.

As a media partner, The Violin Channel will be live-streaming all three of NSCMF’s 2024 concerts

The June 5 performance will center around the theme of the Kreutzer Sonata — the program includes Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins in C major, Op.56; Beethoven’s Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 9  “Kreutzer” in A major, Op. 47; and Hummel’s Piano Quintet in D minor, Op.74.

On June 7, NSCMF’s “The American: Tribute to Benny Goodman” concert will feature Gershwin’s Three Preludes (arr. Kennedy); Dvořák’s String Quintet No.3 “American” in E♭major, Op.97; Bartók’s Contrasts; and Benny Goodman’s Pieces arranged by Ljova.

Prior to the concert, NSCMF will also host “The New Generation” performance showcasing talented young musicians from The Betty Haag Academy of Music at 6 PM.

The Gala Finale on June 8 will include Tchaikovsky’s Meditation, Scherzo and Melody, Sérénade mélancolique, and Valse-Scherzo; Maurer’s Concertante; and Bruch’s String Symphony Op. Posthumous.

In-person tickets to the festival can be found here. The concerts will also be streamed live on NSCMF’s website

“The programs mix old and new, the well-known and little-known, so there is always something fresh and something familiar,” said Gluzman in the program brochure. “Perhaps best of all, the concerts are warm, inviting, and intimate — all the qualities any worthwhile chamber music presentation should have.

“In 2020, we have created a new onstage/offstage series with limited in-person seating that enjoyed a livestream audience of tens of thousands of people in the Chicago area and around the globe,” he continued. “The series provided a way for our artists to stay connected to you, our dear audience, and for talented young musicians to have the opportunity of performing in concerts, and to be encouraged and supported in masterclasses with world-renowned teachers.

“If you are a regular attendee, welcome back. If you’ve never experienced the event, this is the perfect time to give it a try, and welcome music as a sign of a new, brighter beginning.”
