Spain's Orquesta de Valencia Appoints New Chief Conductor and Artistic Director

German conductor Alexander Liebreich will assume the role from the beginning of the 2022/2023 season through to 2026

He will also act as Artistic Advisor to the arts center Palau de la Musica de Valencia.

Liebreich was the former Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Munich Chamber Orchestra as well as the former Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Polish National Radio Symphony.

"Maestro Liebreich was our best choice for the next tenure at the Orquesta de València, both for his quality, experience, international prestige and for having obtained the most popular rating from the members of the Orquesta de València," said Gloria Tello, President of the Palau de la Música de Valencia.

“I am deeply honoured by the commitment of the City of Valencia and the trust of the management and fine musicians of the Orquestra di Valencia to have been offered the position of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director," said Liebreich.

"The long and unique tradition of the Orquestra di Valencia in collaboration with some of the finest conductors such as Sergiu Celibidache, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Valery Gergiev and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, or soloists including Mstislav Rostropowitch, Maria João Pires, Gidon Kremer, José Iturbi, Montserrat Caballé and Waltraud Meier has created a strong landmark of classical music making in this great city of Valencia. I am looking forward to the future challenges for me and for the musicians to seek the highest quality of music making together and to creating extraordinary concerts in their home, the famous Palau de la Musica Valencia."
