Sony Classical Records announced the release of German cellist Raphaela Gromes' new album entitled "Klengel, Schumann: Romantic Cello Concertos."
The album features Julius Klengel's Cello Concerto No. 3 in A minor, Strauss' Romance for Cello & Orchestra in F major, Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G minor, Robert Schumann's Cello Concerto in A minor and "Widmung" Op. 25 No. 1 — in addition to the second movement of Clara Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 7.
"I’ve been very enthusiastic about Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto for many years now, and I feel a deep connection to it," Gromes told The Violin Channel.
"I played it on various occasions including competitions and concerts all over the world, and worked on it with many great cellists and mentors."
"Eventually, I found my own personal approach to this piece full of intimacy, longing, inner struggle, melancholy, but also overwhelming joy, and wanted to share my interpretation with a larger public."
"First and foremost, I hope that my music brings listeners joy and elates their everyday lives. Music has always been a well of hope and joy for me, now more than ever, and I wish to pass that on to my listeners. But I also hope that they become curious about all the fantastic pieces that are still out there to be discovered or rediscovered. There’s so much more I want to show you!"
