Furious Artisans has announced the release of The String Orchestra of Brooklyn's new album: 'Afterimage'.
Recorded with soprano Mellissa Hughes, mezzo-soprano Kate Maroney, violinist Rachel Lee Priday, conductor Eli Spindel and the Argus Quartet, the disc features Christopher Cerrone's 'High Windows', Jacob Cooper's 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa' for Voices & Orchestra, Paganini's 6th Solo Caprice - and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa'.
''The two pillars of the album are Christopher Cerrone's 'High Windows', written for the String Orchestra of Brooklyn in 2013 and Jacob Cooper's 2009 work 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa' ..." violinist Eli Spindel has told The Violin Channel.
"What unites the two is that each piece takes as its starting point a brief fragment from an earlier work and expands and transforms it to create a completely new sound-world ...'' he has said.
''It's hard to do justice in words to how emotionally wrenching and ultimately cathartic these two works are ... my only hope is that listeners open themselves up to this music and see where it takes them.''
