Sono Luminus has this month announced the release of American violinist Janet Sung‘s new album: Sung Sessions: Edge of Youth.
Recorded with pianist William Wolfram, the disc features Georges Enescu’s Impressions d’enfance, Missy Mazzoli’s Dissolve, O My Heart for Solo Violin, Britten’s Suite for Violin and Piano, Dan Visconti’s Rave-Up for Violin and Piano – and Gabriel Prokofiev’s Sleeveless Scherzo for Solo Violin.
“When choosing these works for the album, each one was striking to me in a completely different way …” Janet has told The Violin Channel
“From the throwback to the old world by Enescu, to the re-imagining of Bach by Mazzoli or the blues/rock-inspired edginess of Visconti … the sheer range of what the instrument could express was amazing and a fascinating exploration …” she has said.
“I hope that listeners will be equally captivated and transported through this music and journey that traverses the old world and the new.”
