Prizes Announced at the Long-Thibaud International Violin Competition 2023

VC Artist violinist Bohdan Luts received First Prize of €35,000

 

The 2023 edition of the Long-Thibaud International Competition, which focused on the violin, has recently come to a close. Held triennially in Paris and offering a total prize pool of more than €80,000, the competition rotates its focus between the violin and the piano.

The young Ukrainian violinist and VC Artist Bohdan Luts received First Prize of €35,000, as well as the Audience Prize, the Orchestra Prize, and the Press Award. As a result, he will appear with the Orchestre de la Garde républicaine at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées the day after the conclusion of the competition.

Second Prize of €20,000 went to the Korean violinist Dayoon You, and Third Prize (€12,000) to Japanese violinst Koshiro Takeuchi. The Italian Vikram Francesco Sedona received €8,000 for Fourth Prize and Japanese violinist Miyu Kitsuwa was given €6,000 for Fifth.

Born in Lviv in 2004, Bohdan Luts was the winner of the Carl Nielsen International Competition in 2022. He studied at the Krushelnytska Music School in Lviv, at the Lysenko Music School in Kiev and at the International Menuhin Music Academy. Among his teachers are Oleg Kaskiv, Renaud Capuçon, Olga Korinets, Yaroslava Kataryna, and Maria Futorska.

In 2023, the Long-Thibaud jury comprised Sarah Nemtanu, Silvia Marcovici, Akiko Suwanai, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Sergey Khachatryan, Boris Kuschnir, Marc Laforêt, and Jean-Claude Casadesus.
