The San Francisco Opera has today announced the cancellation of its upcoming Fall 2020 season, from the 11th of September through the 6th of December - due to the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The company will still continue to present virtual events and experiences, stream opera performances from its archives - and offer new digital content throughout this period.
“It is heartbreaking to have to make this announcement today ... it will mean a full year without opera and the loss of projects that would have connected powerfully with our world today ..." San Francisco Opera’s General Director Matthew Shilvock has today said.
The company has indicated that all ticket holders will be contacted with options of contributing the value of their tickets as a tax-deductible donation, receiving a gift certificate for the value of their tickets - or obtaining a full refund.
At this stage the San Francisco Opera's live Spring 2021 programming will not affected.
