Russian composer, pianist and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff died on this day in 1943.

He is remembered as one of the finest pianist of all time – and as one of the last great representives of Russian Romanticism.

Rachmaninoff died from melanoma – 4 days after his 70th birthday.
