Conductor Stefan Vladar to Stay at Theater Lübeck Until 2027
Vladar will simultaneously operate as the theater's General Music Director and Opera Director
Austrian conductor Stefan Vladar has been the theater's General Music Director since 2019 and became their provisional opera director in 2020. Since that time, he has been performing both roles, and will now continue to do so for six more years.
Vladar has worked with a number of prestigious orchestras over the course of his career, including a period as Chief Conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra from 2008. Among the other groups he has worked with are the Camerata Salzburg, Residence Orchestra Den Haag, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Tschaikowsky Symphony Orchestra Moscow, Stuttgart Philharmonic, RSO Budapest, and Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He also has an extensive discography and has released recordings with labels such as Harmonia Mundi and Sony Classical.
"We as the Supervisory Board are very pleased to have Stefan Vladar on board for another five years as a formative artistic personality here at the Lübeck Theater beyond the current season," said Peter Petereit, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
"We are convinced that the continuation of the high artistic quality of the music theater and the concert sector will continue to be guaranteed by his committed management. Even in the challenging times, characterized by closure and limited play, Stefan Vladar was always able to motivate the music theater ensemble and the members of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and implemented an exciting program with them."
"I am looking forward to the coming years and thank the Supervisory Board for the trust they have placed in me and the opportunity to play a decisive role in shaping the music and theater life in the Hanseatic city over the next few years," Vladar said. "This decision and the continued friendly approval from the audience are a great incentive for me to continue to work with all my might for the theater, its people and the city's music lovers."
