The 12 Semi-Finalists have today been announced for the 2019 Stulberg International String Competition – to be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States on the 18th of May.

The 2019 Semi-Finalists are:

  • James Baik (Cello, 17)
  • Jack Boettcher (Cello, 17)
  • Ari Boutris (Violin, 18)
  • Nathan Le (Cello, 19)
  • Stephen Leou (Cello, 17)
  • Sory Park (Violin, 19)
  • Daniel Rafimayeri (Violin, 18)
  • Sara Scanlon (Cello, 18)
  • Hannah White (Violin, 19)
  • Chelsea Xia (Violin, 17)

Open to violinists, violists, cellists and bassists of any nationality aged 19-years or younger and who are not current students of the 2019 judges, the 1st prize winner will receive USD $6,000 – plus a number of domestic concerto performance opportunities.

The 2019 jury will comprise: Paul ColettiEmilio Colón and Jennifer Frautschi.

Founded in 1976, former prize winners include Joshua BellSoovin KimRachel Barton Pine and Jennifer Koh – and VC Artists Zlatomir FungBrannon ChoMatthew LipmanJi-Won Song and Benjamin Beilman.
