New Artistic Director Announced for Switzerland's Andermatt Music
The inaugural concert of the 2022 concert season under Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer will mark the Swiss Orchestra's first time in its new home, Andermatt Concert Hall.
The performance will also commemorate Wüstendörfe's new role as the Artistic Director of the wider organization Andermatt Music.
The Swiss Orchestra, which Wüstendörfe established in 2018, is comprised of younger professional players and is dedicated to the promotion of Swiss works, which they program alongside more well-known works.
Born in Zürich in 1983, Wüstendörfe studied violin, conducting, musicology, and economics in Basel. Sir Roger Norrington and Sylvia Caduff were among her teachers, and she also spent time working as the assistant to Claudio Abbado.
She also holds a doctorate in musicology, which the Swiss orchestra say will allow her to do "pioneering work in the revival or development of forgotten or unknown repertoires."
"As a music lover, I am happy that with the Swiss Orchestra we gain a resident orchestra for the Andermatt Concert Hall," said Samih Sawiris, an investor and the Chair of Andermatt's Board of Directors. "With Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer, a female conductor will be at the helm of Andermatt Music from 2022. She knows how to build musical bridges like no one else."
Featuring violinist Alina Pogostkina, you can find tickets to the inaugural concert on February 4, 2022, here.
