"TÁR" Cellist Sophie Kauer Signs on for New Film "All Five Eyes"
Kauer, who recently became the youngest person to reach #1 on the classical streaming charts, will appear in the new Jaclyn Bethany film
The British-German cellist Sophie Kauer, who appeared in the 2022 Todd Field film Tár, has been cast in the upcoming indie feature All Five Eyes, which is to be directed by Jaclyn Bethany.
Shooting is underway for the film in Kent, England — and Kauer will be joined by fellow actors Greta Bellamacina and Honor Swinton Byrne. Set in 1967 in a small English village, the movie follows siblings Cecily and Marion as they care for their disabled younger sister. Kayer will play the precocious schoolgirl Helena.
As well as playing Lydia Tár's protege in Tár, Kauer also recorded sections of the Elgar Cello Concerto alongside the London Symphony Orchestra for the film.
Kauer signed with Deutsche Grammophon in March of 2023. In May of that year, at age 21, she became the youngest musician to reach #1 on the Classical On-Demand Audio Streaming Chart, for her performance of Clara Schumann's Three Romances, Op. 22.
Born in London, Sophie Kauer studied with Melissa Phelps in the junior department of the Royal Academy of Music. She is presently a student of Torleif Thedeén at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
In 2019 she was named Young Musician of the Year at the Woking Music Festival.
"I’m truly grateful for all the incredibly creative and fulfilling opportunities that have come my way, and am very excited to continue pursuing my passions in both film and music," Kauer said.
