21 year old German cellist Sebastian Fritsch has been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Tonali Competition, in Hamburg, Germany.
A student of Jean-Guihen Queyras at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, Sebastian has recently made solo debuts with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra - and at the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam and Salzburg, Ilertissen and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festivals.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 20-year-old Bryan Chen from Canada and 17-year-old Manuel Lipstein from Germany.
Sebastian will receive €10,000.
In addition, he was awarded the €3,000 audience prize - plus the Mariinsky Orchestra debut invitation special prize.
Held annually, the Tonali Competition rotates yearly between the violin, cello and piano disciplines - previous 1st prize winners include violinist, VC Young Artist Lara Boschkor.
