Tune in on February 8 at 7:30 PM (ET) for a magnificent recital showcasing solo violin repertoire
We're coming to you from Switzerland for a special solo violin recital performed by Clarissa Bevilacqua. The First Prize, Audience Prize and Special Barenreiter Award winner of the International Mozart Competition Salzburg, Clarissa currently serves as Artistic Director of DYNAMIKfest, a classical contemporary chamber music festival based in Salzburg, Austria. She joined the artist roster of the Classeek Ambassador Programme for the 2023-2024 season.
The Violin Channel had a chance to get to know Clarissa ahead of this recital in an exclusive interview.
In regards to the inspiration for this selection of works for her program, Clarissa shares the following:
"Johann Sebastian Bach infamously wrote “Sei Solo” on the manuscript of his iconic Six Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin. While it is universally accepted that he meant to write “sei soli,” the Italian side of me has always thought this tiny grammar mistake perhaps unintentionally reveals a deeper truth. “Sei Solo” - or in my case as a girl, “sei sola” - translates to “you are alone,” a phrase that perfectly captures the challenge and uniqueness of Bach’s masterpiece. For this program, I will spend 45 minutes alone on stage, retracing the steps of five great artists who have followed Bach’s example and composed their own distinctive contribution to the solo violin repertoire."
