VC Young Artist Cellist Zlatomir Fung to Make New York Philharmonic Debut
The 2020 Avery Fisher Grant and 2022 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship recipient, VC Young Artist cellist Zlatomir Fung, will debut with the NY Philharmonic performing Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33, at Colorado’s Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.
Also on the concert program is Rossini’s Finale from the William Tell overture, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64.
Zlatomir will be joined by British conductor Bramwell Tovey and special guest conductor Chi McClean for the concert. Other soloists during the festival will include violinist Bomsori Kim and pianists Seong-Jin Cho and Conrad Tao.

A former first-prize winner at the Johansen, Stulberg, Irving Klein, Schoenfeld, and Enescu International Music Competitions, Zlatomir was also the first-prize recipient of the 2019 Tchaikovsky International Cello Competition.
Of Bulgarian-Chinese heritage, he began playing cello at age three and received fellowships at Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, Heifetz International Music Institute, MusicAlp, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. A student of The Juilliard School, he studied with Richard Aaron and Timothy Eddy.
The Bravo! Vail Music Festival was founded in 1987, by John Giovando and Ida Kavafian as a non-profit organization. Since then, it has grown from a small chamber music series into an international music festival with performances by the world’s top musicians.
NY Phil has performed at Bravo! Each summer since 2003. The festival’s 2022 edition will see the orchestra’s music director Jaap van Zweden conduct four concerts between July 20 and 24, while Tovey will lead the concerts on July 26 and 27.
