Today is Italian violin virtuoso and conductor Uto Ughi’s 75th birthday.
A student of Georges Enescu and Yehudi Menuhin, he is recognised as one of the finest violinists of the last century – having appeared during his 50+ year career with a majority of America and Europe’s top orchestras and conductors.
Maestro Ughi is the former Music Director of the l’Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and has founded a number of international festivals – including the Omaggio a Venezia, Omaggio a Roma and Uto Ughi per Roma.
He currently concertizes on the 1701 Kreutzer Stradivarius violin – once owned by the dedicatee of Beethoven’s famous violin sonata.
