Egyptian Violinist Ashraf Heikal has Died, Aged 52

According to the Musicians Syndicate, the violinist and Dean of Cairo's Arabic Music Institute passed away suddenly from an undisclosed cause

Heikal received his undergraduate degree from the Cairo Conservatory and earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the Arabic Music Institute. At the latter institution, he began teaching and was eventually appointed the dean.

He shared the stage with numerous Arabic music ensembles and distinguished musicians, including the middle eastern orchestra, Oriental Takht Ensemble, and Egyptian pianist and conductor, Omar Khairat.

Our condolences are with Mr. Heikal's family, friends, students, and colleagues.
