Happy Birthday, Violinist Daniel Hope!

Hope served for six seasons with The Beaux Arts Trio, and today performs and records regularly with many of the world’s top orchestras and conductors

 

British violinist Daniel Hope was born on this day, 51 years ago.

Born in South Africa, but raised In the UK, Hope studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal Academy of Music, studying violin with Zakhar Bron, Itzhak Rashkovsky, and Felix Andrievsky. He also worked closely with his mentor Lord Yehudi Menuhin, with whom he gave numerous concerts.

In 2002, Hope became the youngest musician to join the Beaux Arts TrioHis blossoming career led to his decision to leave the Trio, which led to the decision to disband the group in 2008. Following on from this, Hope has enjoyed a thriving international solo career for more than 30 years.

In 2011, Daniel was appointed visiting professor in violin by the Royal Academy of Music.

In 2019, Hope completed his 16th and final season as Associate Artistic Director of Georgia’s Savannah Music Festival and took up the role of Artistic Director of Dresden’s Frauenkirche Cathedral. In 2020, following in the distinguished footsteps of Kurt Masur and Joseph Joachim, Hope started his tenure as President of the Beethoven-Haus Bonn.

A recipient of numerous awards and prizes, special mentions include the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the 2015 European Culture Prize for Music.

Hope, who holds Irish and German citizenship and currently resides in Berlin, performs on the 1742 “ex-Lipínski” Guarneri del Gesù, courtesy of an anonymous family from Germany.
